Useful to know
Foam polystyrene is more than 95 percent air and is widely used to make lightweight protective packaging, surfboards, and cosplay and costume parts.
Vector and raster engraving
Both vector and raster engraving are not possible with polystyrene.
Avoiding burn marks
Polystyrene is not cut with a protective film as there is little to no burn marks.
Laser cutting
Top – A slight hazing of the material will appear along the cut lines.
Edges – Edges have a slightly melted look, but are otherwise clean.
Bottom – A slight hazing of the material will appear along the cut lines.
Finishing treatments
Polystyrene can be painted with acrylic paint. Be sure not to use paint from an aerosol can as the carrier solvent can damage the polystyrene.
